Sit Back and Relax

Oral Sedation, Longview

Sedation dentistry can make patients more comfortable during nearly any cosmetic, restorative, or routine treatment. This is good news for those who would neglect their oral hygiene or pass up a smile makeover for fear of the dentist. At the dental practice of Dr. Jerry Winchell, we have an affinity for patients who feel anxious at the thought of receiving dental care. Dr. Winchell will go out of his way to replace memories of unpleasant dental visits with positive ones. Through oral sedation, our Longview dentist can provide sensitive, caring treatment even to those with the most extreme dental phobias.

What Oral Sedation Patients Can Expect

After undergoing oral sedation, loyal Longview patient Kathy could not contain her excitement, “Wow! What an experience. It was great! A very enjoyable pleasant, relaxing experience for my smile makeover and that night I was running the lake. I'd definitely do it again.”

We have every reason to think you will feel similarly to Kathy as a patient. Those who elect oral sedation should arrive at our Longview practice a little earlier than the scheduled dental treatment; this will allow the calming medication taken on site to produce the desired state of relaxation in time.

The degree of oral sedation ranges from minimal to moderate, depending on the dosage. For minimal sedation, Dr. Winchell will likely have you take a pill about an hour before the procedure. Although feelings of drowsiness will arise, you will remain awake. A larger dose may be necessary to increase the level of sedation to moderate, which is typical in sedation dentistry. Moderate oral sedation is powerful enough to induce a peaceful sleep.

Before you know it, you will wake up refreshed, and your dental work will have been completed! Oral sedation patients will need to arrange for transportation home from our Longview location after treatment.
