Academically

Early on, Dr. Winchell's desire to learn to treat patients as he felt they should be treated inspired him to attend Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in California, an institution whose motto—To Make Man Whole—closely mirrors Dr. Winchell's personal drive to bring caring and wholeness to the patients' lives he touches. Though there were 2,400 applicants for the 75 openings, he was accepted the first year he applied. During his undergraduate training, he excelled in the unique Special Senior Surgical Training program in oral surgery. Upon completion of his training, he obtained his doctorate in dental surgery.

Born and raised in Ohio, the dentist moved to the Northwest with his wife more than thirty years ago and raised his two children here. He had previously fallen in love with Washington while attending college in Walla Walla, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology.

Recreationally

Dr. Winchell's will to help others is apparent in both his professional and personal life. In his spare time, he works with young adults in a variety of settings, such as church, paint ball, and backpacking. Our cosmetic dentist extends his aid beyond Longview, providing dental clinics for people in third-world countries and helping young adults with building projects.

Favorite pastimes of Dr. Winchell include fine woodworking and participating in the Easter musical with his wife.
